Friday January 29, 2010 Morning Revelation
Training your mind is more important than meeting physical needs.
This morning Minister Shaun shared about having lost job recently. Most people get down and depressed after they lose a job – whether they were fired or laid off. For me I don’t really get down. I’ve been let go for many reasons in many different situations. I have been fired for being inadequate which felt terrible, but I know that this was not one of those situations.
I was explaining to Addison last night that of course Jesus is taking care of me. If he gives me a job and provides for my needs then that is how he takes care of me. But if I don’t have a job for a long time, and if he doesn’t provide for many of my needs – that is taking care of me too. Sometimes he trained me by not taking care of me and letting me learn to take care of myself. If my needs don’t get met even that is training because it is more important that my mind be strong. So if I have a job it’s good. If I don’t have a job, that can be good too. What is important is having the right mind and developing the right attitude.
Distractions
As a person who works in the world of the internet I can see that people are getting more and more distractions all the time. Our minds are constantly bombarded with information and we are losing the ability to concentrate. It’s also difficult to have a deep conversation or relationship with others in American culture, so there are many cultures working against us.
Change begins with us
Minister Gil suggests we read Romans 12. We ourselves have to begin the culture of caring for one another. We have to change first. If we don’t implement Heaven’s culture and care for each other according to what Jesus taught us, then we won’t be able to influence others. If we are changed, then Jesus will bring others in. We can’t just continue to do as we always did.
It begins with me. If I only take care of myself, then nothing will change. If minister Gil lived 5 minutes from another member he said he would begin by making sure to take care of that member. We must become our brother’s keeper. Share with them what they missed out on. Even if it is bothersome to them, that is love. To leave them alone is not love.
